CA Info Session: Tie Mentoring and Leadership Program, Aug. 13th

You are invited to attend the info session for TiE Mentoring and Leadership Program (TMLP). We received several requests so we are hosting a 2nd info session on Thu, Aug 13th, 2009, 6:30pm at TiE Headquarters, 2903 Bunker Hill Lane, Suite 108, Santa Clara, CA 95054.Please attend if you were unable to do so the first time. TMLP caters to current and aspiring startup founders/CEOs that are looking for an invigorating, transforming experience. It provides an opportunity to practice entrepreneurship, venture capital, leadership and community service. TMLP's mission is to guide bootstrapping CEOs and to groom the next generation of leaders as startup founders/CEOs in Life Sciences, Technology, Clean Tech and Social Enterprise. The objectives of the program are to mentor, educate and prepare participants to create and lead successful startups.


Participants practice a mix of soft and hard skills related to honing leadership skills, creating & evaluating business plans, venture capital basics, event management, marketing, presentation skills, networking and community leadership. Participants also receive mentoring from successful leaders to assist with their startup and career development. Most importantly, it helps you expand your professional network in the bay area.


This program was started in Boston in 2007 and has grown successfully since. We are now launching in Silicon Valley and are recruiting for the Class of 2010 which starts in September 2009. Our target participants are in their 20-30’s and are passionate about entrepreneurship in life sciences, tech, clean-tech, and social sectors. TiE Mentoring and Leadership Program

The vision of TiE Mentoring and Leadership Program (TMLP) is to guide bootstrapping CEOs and groom the next generation of leaders as startup founders & CEOs in Life Sciences, Technology, Clean Tech, and Social Enterprise. The overall objective of the program is to mentor, educate and prepare participants to create and lead successful startups.

Tracks
TMLP has two tracks.

i. TMP: The first track is TiE Mentoring Program which guides bootstrapping founders and CEOs. TMP provides the flexibility of seeking mentorship on as-needed basis while getting access to some TLP activities.

ii. TLP: The second track is TiE Leadership Program which focuses on leadership development. TLP is a 9-month structured track that endeavors to create a strong network of talented founders & CEOs that will graduate as TiE Fellows.

Activities
The main activity for the TMP track is to provide

· Mentoring – Assign a TiE Charter Member as mentor to founder/CEO of an existing startup.

TMLP aspires to go beyond by offering several activities to groom startup founders/CEOs. Besides mentoring, TLP activities also include:

· Monthly Speaker Series – 9 classes from top VCs, entrepreneurs, academicians

· Create/Run a Startup – Startup creation and pitch deck

· Ideation – Weekend ideation sessions to discuss the specifics of starting YOUR company

· Hard & Soft Skills Workshops – Term sheets, financial models, negotiations, legal, hiring, structuring, compensation plans, valuations

· “Pitch” Practice – Fellows prepare and pitch startup ideas

· Leadership – Community and industry projects, TiE & TMLP activities

· Education – Informal classroom learning on life science, clean-tech, technology

· Field trips to startups, incubators, and design studios.

· SIG Events: Participation in Special Interest Group (SIG) events for TiE

Selection Criteria

1. TMP: To qualify for TMP, you have to be a CEO or founder of a bootstrapping company with significant growth potential and sufficient funds to sustain for about 12 months.

2. TLP: To qualify for TLP, you need

* Passion for entrepreneurship e.g. creating or running a startup at time of application

* Strong track record of accomplishments and demonstrated leadership at work and school

* Commitment of 5 -10 hours per month for 9 months

* Ability to attend program meetings regularly

Only TiE SV members are allowed to participate in the program. You can become a member prior to applying to the program.
